He joined the Board in 1988 as the president of the Hampton Roads Association of Clinical Counselors and has served in a variety of positions ever since. In addition to a previous presidency in 1994-95, he has served as Secretary, Professional Advocacy Committee Chair, Newsletter Editor, Conference Chair, and a variety of positions. Mike is also the Advocacy Chair of the National Fair Access Coalition on Testing, representing the American Mental Health Counselors Association. Asked about his service to the profession, Mike stated, “I love working with VACC and advocating for our profession, and I have received so much personally and professionally from my activities. Licensed as an LPC in 1985, Mike also holds licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist. He is a National Certified Counselor, Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and Certified Hypnotherapist. His primary affiliation is with Coastal Counseling Center in Chesapeake, but he owns two businesses – Police Psychological Services and Personnel Assessment Services that specialize in personnel assessment. In addition to his counseling practice, Mike specializes in psychological testing and provides clinical supervision in testing of all kinds. Mike also teaches graduate courses at Old Dominion University and is on the National Credentials Committee of Value Options. Mike reports that he is available for any form of psychological testing. He is also interested in providing clinical supervision in the area of psychological testing. He and his partner in Personnel Assessment Services are interested in talking to those who would like to collaborate in business employment consultation. Mike is married and lives in a rural area of Virginia Beach. Among his interests are landscaping, philosophy, Zen, photography, movies, cruises, and writing haiku.
